Conserve
This year, Northgate launched its Conserve Solution designed to assist rganisations to minimise their environmental impact and to reduce, reuse and recycle more. This assists organisations to function better with reduced maintenance, repair and consumption costs. Efficiency, energy star ratings and environmental friendliness are key to our design.
Green Payslips
In partnership with DHL, the world’s leading logistics company, we rolled out the UK’s first ever “green payslip” plan early in 2008. It is anticipated that the partnership will reduce DHL’s carbon footprint by nearly ten tonnes of CO2 per year. “When NorthgateArinso showed us that the payslips are almost indistinguishable from a regular payslip, and just as secure, with the same quality seal, the decision to switch was an easy one for us.We are always looking for ways to be more environmentally friendly. Confident that the payslips meet our requirements, this partnership is demonstrating to our staff that we are committed to becoming a ‘greener’ business.”
Anne Parris, Director of Accounting EMEA at DHL. Energy Efficiency
In June 2008, we announced the launch of our energy performance partnerships with the social housing sector, enabling social landlords to deliver high-quality Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs) for their homes. We were also delighted to extend our energy efficiency services into Northern Ireland. We were the first organisation to secure accreditation in Northern Ireland from BRE, the leading environmental certification body, to enable our energy efficiency software to be used across Northern Ireland for the production of EPCs. Following agreement between the Northern Ireland government and the UK government, Northgate’s existing accredited Domestic Energy Assessors are able to produce EPCs in Northern Ireland, so long as they carry out a further training module. “The battle against climate change will only be won by an innovative and collaborative response involving us all. The role of social landlords has changed dramatically in recent times, developing from simply providing social housing for citizens to contributing effectively to community wellbeing. We are committed to working in partnership with social landlords to promote awareness of energy efficiency and bring about a sea-change in organisational and personal attitudes towards energy usage.”
Russell Osborne, Managing Director Northgate Land & Property. Sustainable Procurement
We seek to improve our performance through effective supply chain management. We use our influence and our buying power to encourage our suppliers to carry out socially responsible practices and to use energy and resources efficiently. We aim to incrementally introduce sustainable procurement practices throughout our purchasing operations. This year we have developed a Group wide procurement sustainable policy. This builds upon our pilot project of sustainable procurement for a Group-wide managed hotels service where tenders were evaluated according to a ratio of 50/30/20 for price, quality and corporate responsibility issues.
Over the next year, we intend to integrate sustainable procurement criteria into our Group wide procurement including facilities and utilities management. |
