Community

This year we commenced the roll out of Community Link as part of our UK community investment policy. The scheme helps to improve our people’s community involvement at a local level and gives them the opportunities to support good causes that are important to them. Every permanent UK Northgate employee is entitled to one day’s paid leave to participate in a team community-related
activity. As a result, our corporate volunteering programme has extended. This year, our people have engaged in initiatives such as National VolunteeringWeek, Time to Read, Time to Compute, and the Company maintains strong links with Business in the Community, the Prince’s Trust and the Peace Alliance.

“I believe passionately in combating crime in our inner cities and working to promote partnerships which will deliver social justice and community cohesion. Northgate is a partner in the true sense of the word – committed to our goals, it works with us to make a practical difference in the communities in which we operate.”

Nims Obunge, Peace Alliance.

This year, we also developed a more detailed policy on political involvement. As a company, Northgate operates as a politically neutral organisation and makes no political contributions. However, the Company proactively seeks to be an active participant in the public policy process so that we can build strong relationships with political stakeholders. We use our experience and perspectives to inform the delivery of effective and efficient public services and to promote social, environmental and economic well-being in the wider community.

The Company works closely with political stakeholders such as civil servants and public sector officials, as well as elected members to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of public services and to inform policy on key public service issues including democratic reform, energy efficiency, the use and management of public information, criminal justice, housing, local government and community and individual well-being.

Northgate uses its public policy work to assist political stakeholders in understanding its role as a business and as an employer and to develop mutual solutions which promote financial, social and environmental well-being.

Northgate regularly contributes to public policy through developing position papers and responding to government and public authority consultations to provide evidence based views on how public services can be made more effective and efficient and deliver services which place individuals at their heart.
