Managed Services 22-Nov-2007 - [Managed Services] NORTHGATE DELIVERS GREATER EFFICIENCIES FOR NI’s LEADING DAIRY BUSINESS An investment in the latest data storage technology is enabling United Dairy Farmers to manage its ever expanding volumes of transactional data, resulting from continued business growth. United, operate five dairy processing plants in the UK under it’s subsidiary company Dale Farm, and collect over 1 billion litres of milk per year. Working in partnership with Northgate Infrastructure Solutions, a new Storage Area Network was identified as a key requirement to handle the vast quantities of data being processed and analysed by United’s group-wide business applications, including it’s main Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system. This new solution improves system performance and user efficiency whilst also providing an opportunity to simplify data backup and security. Northgate have also assisted United with the implementation of improved anti-virus and anti-spamming solutions to cope with the growing trend in junk e-mail. To ensure these new platforms and programmes operate correctly, Northgate provide a remote monitoring service to minimise the need for on-site IT support and to identify and resolve problems before they impact upon the end user – allowing the organisation to benefit from increased efficiencies across the business. And as David Brown, Group IT Director of United Dairy Farmers explains as a result of the increased business activity experienced in all areas of the organisation it was necessary to ensure the appropriate systems were installed. “United Dairy Farmers manages a significant number of business transactions on a daily basis, most of which involve automatic data capture and interchange. This includes a wide variety of transactions with leading UK retailers as well as customers both in the EU and worldwide. In order to support our growing operation, and the increasing demands placed on technology throughout the business, we required a stable and flexible technical infrastructure. In addition to improving our data security, the key benefit of our partnership with Northgate has been the identification and implementation of a number of key technical solutions that support all major data processing systems within the business.” Mr. Brown continued, “By reducing the time required to manage and monitor our infrastructure we have been able to concentrate our time on implementing new systems which provide tangible benefits to our business as well as improving customer service.” James Turnball, Managing Director of Northgate’s Infrastructure Solutions division stated, “We are delighted to support United Dairy Farmers’ diverse and developing business requirements. We remain dedicated to ensuring that our robust managed and support solutions provide the organisation with the flexibility and enhanced customer service capabilities to continue to grow and develop its business both locally and internationally. We look forward to advancing this prosperous relationship and would like to take this opportunity to congratulate United on its many successes to date.” -ENDS- |
